Bernie Wagenblast - transportation communicator and one time voice of Shadow Traffic on WABC and WINS - stopped by the Cranford Dramatic Club theatre to interview the directors and cast members of "The Music Man" for Cranford Radio, which strives to inform town residents about what is happening in their town in their own voices.
“The Music Man,” with book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson and based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey tells the iconic story of Harold Hill, who goes to River City, Iowa, to create a boys’ band and to sell instruments. Harold cons the naive townspeople of their money and plans to skip town. Marian Paroo, the prim librarian, is onto him, but when he helps her younger brother overcome his fear of social interactions, she begins to fall in love with him. Harold falls for Marian as well, but risks being caught in his con if he continues to woo her. The production is directed by Ken and Mary Webb, and features Paul Aiello and Misti Dawn Garritano as “Professor” Harold Hill and Marian Paroo. And while the 1957 Broadway début had seventy-six trombones leading a parade, CDC's “parade” will include over 30 cast members.
